Poor shaft alignment accounts for up to 50% of downtime costs of rotating machinery. Accurate alignment prevents much unplanned downtime and lost production. Machines must be aligned both horizontally and vertically; misalignment is usually a combination of parallel and angular misalignment.
Misalignment leads to more friction and energy consumption, premature failure of bearings, seals, shafts and couplings, lubricant leakage, damaged coupling and foundation bolts, and more vibration and noise.
